Knights of Iceland

A team of six riders and horses are headed from Taktur to Texas! The Knights of Iceland will be performing an act in the Horses and Horsemen of the World Show produced by Dan James of Double Dan Horsemanship. This show is a part of the Mustang Magic at the prestigious Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. Follow along on social as we bring the Knights of Iceland to Texas for the first time!

Intro to Icelandic Horsemanship Workshop
February 6-9
Crestwood, KY
This will be our first ever 4 day workshop for Icelandic horse newbies! This workshop is for folks just starting out with their first Icelandic and for folks that may want to explore riding Icelandic horses for the first time. You can bring your own Icelandic horse or use one of our school horses. This workshop will cover Icelandic horse history, conformation, gaits, organizations, and farrier work. Each participant will receive private lessons on Icelandic horsemanship from Carrie and Terral.

Merrimack Valley Icelandics Clinic with Carrie

This clinic is hosted by Ebba Meehan of Merrimack Valley Icelandics. Ebba offers boarding, training, lessons, horse sales, shows and clinics at her facility located on the outskirts of Boston. Merrimack Valley is a top notch Icelandic horse business and a great resource for folks in the area. We love partnering with their team!

Knapamerki Level 1 & 2 Test Prep Lessons
March 20-21
Crestwood, KY
These lessons are for students planning on taking the Knapamerki Level 1 and/or 2 Exams on March 22. These lessons will only be available March 20th and 21st and will be taught exclusively by Carrie as the resident Holar graduate and certified Knapamerki instructor. In order to test you must take at least one lesson per level with Carrie before taking the exam.

Knapamerki Level 1 & 2 Exams
March 22

Knapamerki Level 1 and 2 Exams consist of both a practical and theoretical test. The practical test will take place in the Taktur arena and be done virtually with Caeli Cavanagh as the judge. Caeli will proctor the tests via a live feed but judge off a recording that will be taken simultaneously on a separate device. This allows for proper video quality for judging while simultaneously insuring the performance is completed per the rules. The theoretical tests will be done separately as a written exam. These will be proctored and graded by Carrie. The written and ridden exams can be signed up for separately for each level offered.

Gait Training Workshop
April 2-6
Crestwood, KY
This five gait workshop will cover the training of the five gaits of the Icelandic horse! Each day of the workshop will focus on one of the gaits including both practical and theoretical learning. This workshop is open to all levels of riders and horses as the gait training each day will be tailored to each individual horse-rider combo experience level. Participants are welcome to bring their own horses or lease one of ours!

Midwest Horse Fair ILHA Freestyle Competition

We are thrilled to announce that Carrie and her liberty team were chosen to compete in the ILHA Invitational Freestyle Liberty Show at the Midwest Horse Fair. This competition will open for the PRCA Evening Rodeo event! We are so excited for this opportunity and looking forward to seeing how the team does!

Aslan's Country Icelandics Clinic with Carrie
May 2-4

This clinic is hosted by Kydee Scheetz of Aslan’s Country Icelandics. Kydee has run a quality breeding program and offers horse sales at her facility located outside of Duluth, MN. Kydee is known for breeding great riding horses with a calm disposition. She starts all of her young horse’s under saddle herself and competes as well as supports a variety of Icelandic horse events. We love visiting this farm and seeing old friends!

Liberty & Bridleless Riding Workshop
July 9-13

Come and join us for one of our favorite workshops! Over the course of the five days you will have the opportunity to truly explore liberty, bridleless-riding, horse behavior, and the horse-human connection. Whether you're interested in just starting your liberty journey, competing at liberty, or looking to explore more advanced concepts we will tailor each session to each individuals needs. This five-day event incorporates lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on sessions for a fully immersive experience. All sessions will be individual but will involve group discussion and contemplation. You'll be surprised at how much you can learn from one another and from observing how the different horse’s evolve at liberty.

Lunar Hill Icelandics Clinic with Carrie

This clinic is hosted by Jana Meyer of Lunar Hill Icelandics. Jana offers boarding, training, lessons, and clinics at her facility in Chelsea, Vermont. Jana is a licensed instructor, trainer, and sport judge and a truly incredible resource for the US Icelandic horse community in her region. We love collaborating with Lunar Hill!

North American Youth Cup
July 22-29

The next North American Youth Cup is scheduled for June 22-29th, 2025. This will be the fifth American Youth Cup and we are so excited and proud that this tradition is being continued. The American Youth Cup is so important to our youth who struggle with the geographical issues of our large country. The Youth Cup fosters friendships and teamwork amongst participants in addition to a fantastic week of learning and competition. Participants can bring their own horse or borrow one, and will take daily lessons with four renown trainers followed by participating in a competition on the weekend where they compete individually and most importantly for their team!

Trail Riding Workshop
July 30 - August 3

There is nothing like cruising the trails! Whether you're planning a trek to Iceland or hoping to improve your skills for around home, this workshop is a perfect opportunity to sharpen your abilities as a trail rider and provide your horse with an education to confidently handle a variety of trail situations. Topics of instruction will include, trailer loading, navigating obstacle, maneuverability, riding out in pairs, riding out on larger group rides, and training the gaits on the trail. The ultimate goal is that you and your horse can feel confident in your abilities to handle a variety of scenarios. We'll be addressing these topics through lectures, demonstrations, and hands on application. This was one of our most well received workshops in 2024. Participants really benefited from riding out with the instructors and having that sort of hands on help in the contexts that they needed it the most.

Illuminated Equestrian Clinic with Carrie

This clinic is hosted by Katie Livingood of Illuminated Equestrian. Katie offers lessons, training, and clinics traveling to private owners and barns in the twin cities area. Katie is certified as a USIHC Basic Instructor and also trains and teaches other gaited breeds professionally. We always love partnering with Katie and having the opportunity to work with the community she is building in this region!

Taktur Trek in Iceland

For the second year in a row we will be accompanying a group of clients to Iceland to experience the Icelandic horse in its element. There is no feeling in the world like riding with a loose horse of over 50 horses through the stunning Icelandic landscape. This trek usually fills up immediately so contact us if you are interested.

Modern Day Horsemanship Clinic

This event has become a yearly tradition filled with friendship, joy, and incredible learning. Patrick and Avery of Modern Day Horsemanship and Gamilah Unbridled have a special ability to share the wonders of liberty and bridleless riding with all level of horse’s and riders. They truly see the inherent beauty of each horse and love to help their students learn to cultivate that through liberty. Friday Night Freestyle Competition
We will be offering our third annual Friday Night Freestyle competition at 6:30pm at Taktur Icelandics! Divisions will include: Youth, Adult Amateur, and Professional. Costumes, music, and creativity encouraged! Performances may last no longer than 5 minutes. Cost to enter is $30 if you are only planning on participating only in the Freestyle and included in our flat fee for all Locust Hill Ranked Show Competitors. Audience attendance is encouraged!

Dressage Workshop

The Dressage Workshop is a great opportunity to shift your training focus to some winter-friendly indoor arena riding. It’s goal is to inspire your indoor training so that it is engaging and productive both for you and your horse. Through dressage you will be building the perfect foundation for success for the next year! As with each of our workshop options, you can expect to receive quality hands-on, individualized instruction in addition to insightful lectures and applicable demonstrations. Practical sessions will include both ridden work but also ground work that helps us build a truly classical dressage foundation. Topics will include the dressage training pyramid, dressage exercises, and collection and self carriage.
