Why we love it…

This saddle is named after the Greek philosopher and horseman Xenophon. It is our go to saddle for every occasion from hitting the trails, to beginner riding lessons, to high level competitions. We always keep this saddle on hand because it is simply a timeless model.

Ástund has been designing and manufacturing saddles since 1985 and the quality is always excellent. The use some of the finest leather on the market and Jacob’s wool flocking. Our current Ástund Xenophon is over 10 years old so we can definitely testify to the durability of this product.

The seat and supportive knee rolls of the Xenophon is perfect for beginner riders and trail riders that want a deeper seat that helps hold you in a correct and secure position. It is also our top choice when starting youngsters as we feel it helps us stay stable and balanced.

The fit of the Xenophon to the Icelandic horse is excellent. This is especially true when it comes to freeing up the shoulders for tolt and pace. The panels are set well apart to allow room for the spine and the majority of the horses in our barn move well in this saddle. The wool flocking allows for re-flocking and adjusting the fit overtime as needed.
