Eczema Rug

$145.00

By HRÍMNIR

Why we love it…

The skin condition known as eczema is an unfortunate reality that many Icelandic horse owners have to contend with throughout the summer season. We have found here at Taktur that keeping the horses inside the barn during dawn and dusk along with regularly dousing in fly spray keeps most symptoms at bay. That said, some horses, for a variety of reasons, need to be outside overnight leaving them vulnerable during the dawn and dusk periods. For these horses an eczema blanket is key in preventing severe eczema symptoms from developing.

The Hrimnir eczema blanket was developed in close cooperation with team Hrímnir rider’s Vicky and Beggi Eggertsson. It effectively protects all areas impacted by summer eczema including the mane, tail, chest, inbetween the front legs, belly line, and tail. It provides the utmost comfort and protection for horses with sensitive skin and even contributes to a sustainable future by using recycled fabric. This eczema blanket ensures optimal breathability and air circulation which important for us operating here in the hot KY summers. Its tailored fit means that it offers full coverage of all areas in need of protection, while also not restricting the horse’s natural movement.

Sizes: 125cm and 135cm

Consider this…

If you have never put an eczema blanket on prepare yourself for a struggle! These can take practice! It is best to begin by getting the horse’s head through the neck hole by scrunching up the neck of the blanket and slipping the horse’s head through. Next you can drape the rest of that piece over the back and tail. Finally, you can attach the belly piece by running the elastic strips through the back piece and doing up the snaps. The last step should be attaching the buckles to the chest piece after running the belly piece in between the front legs.
