Vaskur frá Kagaðarhóli
True to the lineage that stands behind him, Vaskur contains incredible natural abilities. He received first prize for conformation alone as a 4 year old. As the notes in his assessment disclose, he is naturally well-raised and high in the withers with good proportions. In the ridden assessment as a 5 year old, he received a 9 for tölt. Praise was given for his speed, reach, and action. In the same evaluation, Vaskur was awarded a 9 for trot with comments to his clear beat, long stride and high action. Though he was presented as a four-gaiter his predicted genotype per Worldfengur is AA (five-gaited).
Vaskur stands out quite well on the oval track. He and Carrie Brandt have climbed to the top of the National Rider Ranking in T3. The pair received an overall National Ranking qualifying score in T3 of 7.07, with a high score of 7.20. This duo also sit in second place for the National Rider Ranking in T1 with their highest qualifying score of 7.30!
Vaskur has received individual scores as high as 7.0 and 7.5 in fast tempo tölt in sport competition. As the scores demonstrate, if you’re searching for a stallion with true abilities in tölt Vaskur is a worthy candidate.
Outside of his abilities in competition, Vaskur has to be one of the calmest stallions we have managed. His quiet confidence has allowed us to use him in a variety of scenarios. One such example was his inclusion in the team of horses that accompanied our Assistant Trainer Anna Draeger to the FEIF Level 1 Trainers Certification Exam in 2022. One of his roles was to be the horse that she used to pony off of. In both pattern work and cantering down an open road he was a perfectly behaved mount, even with the ponied horse being a mare!
Additionally, he has been a repeat member of the Knights of Iceland Show Team. The horses that are a part of this drill are incredibly special due to the wide range of requirements they must meet for success. They must have the speed to keep up with a fast paced and high energy drill, be calm enough to stand and allow their riders to participate in the beer tölt presentation, and be comfortable with an environment that includes several other horses, fire, and a packed stadium. Vaskur has filled this role well.
If you come out to the farm for a visit, you’ll likely find him happily hanging out with his best pals Tholinn (one of our other personal Icelandics) and Cookie (the resident Miniature Horse).
Vaskur comes from a very exciting pedigree. He was sired by Álfur frá Selfossi. Álfur earned first prize as a 4 year old in his evaluations and has since earned his title as a honor prize stallion thanks to the success of his offspring. As is demonstrated in Vaskur’s abilities, Álfur earned up to a 9.5 for tölt with notes to his speed, action and reach.
His dam, Opera also earned first prize with an 8.5 for the action and reach in her tölt. She has produced several first prized offspring of her own. Opera goes back to Hrafn frá Holtsmula, an honor prize stallion who earned first prize assessment as a 4 year old. Hrafn earned up to a 9 for tölt, trot, character and general impression and received 8.5 for pace.
With early high evaluation scores coming from both sides of his pedigree tree, it’s no wonder Vaskur has the natural abilities that he does!

We are just starting our first Vaskur youngster. It actually happens to be one we personally own. She’s out of Vár frá Grafarkoti and is only 4 this year. We’re pretty early in the process, but we have big hopes for her!
