smari frá Tjarnarlandi
This 5-gaited stallion is one that really has it all. Smari can take you zooming down the pace track or floating along the trails in tölt (he’s a bourbon tölt champion after all). Observers will notice he radiates plenty of willingness and positive energy while still being calm and respectful enough for kiddos to ride and be around. Taking a spin on him in any context is the highlight of our training day!
Smari earned first prize at just 5 years old, with an 8.11 overall. His highlights were 9 for walk, 8.5 for trot and general impression, and 8 for tölt, pace and spirit.
We have no doubt that after meeting him, you’ll be in love with Smari as much as we are. He has consistently proven to be a cooperative and willing partner for his riders. Not many horses can go from eagerly sprinting down the pace track to happily and calmly carting a kiddo around around the oval in the same show!
Smari has done quite well on the oval track in F2, scoring up to a 6.45 in World Ranking level competition in Iceland.
His abilities in tölt and pace have made him a valuable team member of the Knights of Iceland Show Team. Smari performs flawlessly in these high-energy and demanding events. His range in tölt speed makes him excellent for the drill, while he has no issue standing quietly to allow his rider to drink their unspilled beer at the end of the beer tölt. Smari’s incredible acceleration and speed in the pace sprint through fire makes him a particular favorite of the crowd. You have to watch closely…if you blink he’s gone!
Some of our students have also had the opportunity to compete on him in tölt classes. He does an excellent job of providing them with a positive and rewarding experience. In the past year, he received a 5.75 with one of our youth riders in T8.
Most recently, Terral has been teaming up with him on pace. Pace classes (particularly pace test) can be quite tricky. However, they were able to hit the ground running this year, earning a 6.17 in pace test and trimming down their pace race time to a 9.30”. Terral and Smári currently hold the US record for highest score in Pace Test. Keep an eye on the straight track to to see this pair zooming into 2024!
Just wait until you see the performance records on either side of Smari´s pedigree. Trust us…it does not disappoint!
His sire, Þóroddur frá Þóroddsstöðum earned first prize in his breeding assessment (8.75 overall) and was awarded honor prize for the success of his offspring. Highlights from his evaluation scores include an incredible 9.5 for spirit and 9 for tölt, pace, trot and general impression. He also received an 8.5 for gallop and an 8 for walk. Judges offered praise for his speed capacity, clear beat, long strides and eager, cooperative nature. Observers of Smari will likely recognize his sire’s praised qualities when seeing him in action.
That’s not all his sire has to show though. This incredible stallion also took second position in the A-Finals of Landsmot Gæðingakeppni A-Class Five Gait with a total of 9.04.
Looking to Smari’s dam, Kórina frá Tjarnarlandi also leads us to impressive bloodlines. Kórina was a first-prized mare, earning 8.43 overall. Highlights from her evaluation included an incredible 9.5 for tölt and temperament, 9.3 for trot, and 9 for gallop.
Smari´s grandsire through his dam’s lines, links him to the notable Kjarval frá Sauðárkróki. Kjarval earned both first prize (8.32 overall) and honor prize. His evaluation scores were particularly impressive, with a 9 for trot and tölt, and 8.5 for pace and gallop.
When you make a match with Smari, you can rest assured that you’re breeding to a horse that is of high quality, sound temperament, and proven bloodlines.

Smari has several offspring in Iceland, however only one has been taken to evaluations. He does have a 4 year old daughter here in the US that has just been started under saddle. We look forward to seeing what this mare has to offer!
