Kvikur from beat n’ branch

Who doesn’t immediately fall in love with a golden eyed palomino stallion? It’s hard not to be drawn to Kvikur from the moment you lay eyes on him.

We’ve been fortunate enough to have known this horse from the start of his training. He has been quite amiable and straightforward. His calm disposition and positive mindset towards work are especially noteworthy as a young stallion. Kvikur’s movements tend to naturally be open and reaching. Spring of 2024 we took Kvikur to his first Breeding Assessment where he received 1st Prize for conformation and 2nd Prize overall. Highlights were he received 8.5 for Hooves with comments such as well developed, well formed, and strong horn material. He also received 8.5 for Leg Quality with comments including big joints, correct limbs, and good feathers. In his ridden assessment he showed all five gaits and this was his first time traveling away from home for a big event - quite an accomplishment for a 5 year old horse! His highest score was an 8.5 for walk which included comments good stride length, clear beat, steady, and energetic. He also received a 7.5 for ride ability and general impression. That weekend he also competed in the Green Horse T0lt scoring over 6.0 and for the very first time in F2 Five Gait scoring over 5.0. We are excited to see how he develops in the coming years both in breeding assessments and in competitions.

Kvikur his a particularly special horse to us. His dam, Kvika from Four Winds Farm was sent to Taktur for training leading up to evaluations. She earned her first prize title (8.16 overall) under the riding of our very own, Terral Hill. We consider our journey with Kvika as a celebration of what can happen when breeders, trainers and owners come together in the US.

Kvika also serves as a link to some notable horses further back in his pedigree, such as Hrafn frá Holtsmúla, Orri frá Þufu í Landeyjum, and Kjarval frá Sauðárkróki. All of which are not only first prize stallions, but have also earned the title of honor prize for the performance of their offspring.

We’ve had the pleasure of working directly with Kvikur’s sire, Strokkur frá Syðri-Gegnishólum. This first prize stallion is a direct son of Orri frá Þufu í Landeyjum (mentioned above). Showing off the quality bloodlines behind him, Strokkur scored an impressive 9 for pace and an 8.5 for tölt and gallop. Such high marks shouldn’t come as a surprise. Alongside Orri’s abilities (9.5 for tölt), Strokkur’s grandsire through this line was Otur frá Sauðárkróki. Otur earned an incredible 9.5 for pace!
