Ástarljós from pegasus Flughestar

We’ve been fortunate to have been with Ástarljós from the beginning. This is thanks to the trust of her breeder and current owner, Kathy Love. Ástarljós is a four-gaited daughter of first prize stallion and son of Hrafn frá Holtsmúla, Pegasus frá Skyggni. Throughout her training, Ástarljós has received an extremely well rounded education. This has included a familiarity with Dressage maneuvers, obstacle course training, ground driving, and bridleless riding. Not only have these elements been instrumental in her training, but she has also received high success at competitions across organizations. This includes the bridleless riding division of the International Liberty Horse Association, as well as obstacle course and Dressage classes through the USIHC. She has been shown in USIHC virtual shows in Green Horse, Novice Horse and 3-gait. Ástarljós was also used by our Assistant Trainer, Anna Draeger within the obstacle course and ponying exams for the FEIF Level 1 Trainers Certification Exam in Truro, IA. In the competition that followed, she tied for first in her Dressage test and placed first in the obstacle course where she was ridden through bridleless!

This fall, head trainer Carrie Brandt competed on her in both the Locust Hill Fall Show Obstacle Course as well as our first annual Taktur Freestyle Competition. She again took first place for the Obstacle Course class, completing it in an open field with her unique flair…bridleless. In the Taktur Freestyle, she also was presented bridleless. During this event Ástarljós and Carrie exhibited dressage maneuvers such as shoulder-in, haunches-in, and the leg yield.

The most recent addition to her education has included jumper training with fellow trainer Carrie Barrick at Paramount Stables in Prospect, KY. True to the athleticism and eager attitude this mare has always demonstrated in her time with us, Ástarljós is proving to be a natural at sailing over the poles. Her ability to take new training exercises in stride is truly special.

Don't just take our word for it. Make sure to check out the videos on our website from both competitions and her jump training to see how incredible this mare is for yourself.

The athleticism and maneuverability she exhibits, combined with her friendly character and eagerness to work make her a lovely partner.
