Jeny feldner

Jeny Feldner is a life long Icelandic horse enthusiast. She has participated in the community here in the United States as a rider, breeder, scribe, and barn manager for over 20 years.

Jeny has been riding horses since she was 9 years old. Growing up in Germany she was always interested in Icelandic horses and pursued her passion for the breed through books, movies, and magazines because there was not an Icelandic horse farm in her region.

In Germany Jeny began her studies in early childhood, giving her a solid foundation in teaching. In 1998 she moved to the United States where she started volunteer work at a therapeutic riding facility that offered horse assisted learning for disabled children. At the same time she worked at two different ranches in Colorado - Painted Hills Ranch and Pine Run Ranch. In 2001, Jeny finally bought her first horse, a paint mare.

Here in the U.S. Jeny obtained her diploma in early childhood education, her assistant teacher certification, and received her certified nursing certificate. She worked in elementary school education and as a pediatric home health care nurse.

In a trip back to Germany in 2010 Jeny got to ride Icelandics for the first time and became determined to find opportunities to work further with the breed in Colorado. In 2011 Jeny became lessons with Coralie Demeade at Tamangur Icelandics, and by 2012 Jeny acquired her first Icelandic through Lough Arrow Icelandics.

Jeny became a beloved member of the Tamangur Icelandics / Klettafjalla community in Colorado. As a devoted student of Icelandic horsemanship, she regularly attended clinics with Guðmar Þór Pétursson, Barbara Frische, and many other clinicians.

Through the years Jeny’s herd grew as she became more involved in the breed and as her husband Chris and son Julian also began to ride the Icelandic horses. In 2015 Jeny established her breeding program with the birth of Hvatur from Windy Acres.

In 2020 the Feldner family moved from Colorado to Kentucky. Jeny continued her dedication to breeding under the new name Salt River Farm in Lawrenceburg. She took a job as a barn manager at Lettleiki Icelandics in Shelbyville, KY for over a year caring for approx. 60 Icelandic horses.

In 2022 Jeny Feldner joined the Taktur Team for the first time to assist backstage with the Knights of Iceland performance in Springfield, MA. In 2024 she began to help with barn management at Taktur helping us cover while Anna was on maternity leave - then in the fall of 2024 she officially joined the team in a permanent role as barn manager and assistant trainer / instructor. Jeny has proved to be an incredibly hard worker that is always sensitive to our horses emotional and physical welfare. She is endlessly dedicated towards offering the horse’s the best care possible. Jeny helps the Taktur Team stay organized and has been gradually taking on more of a role assisting us in the training. As of 2025 Jeny is starting a Taktur program for the youngest riders in our community. We are excited to see her combine her love of early childhood education with her passion for the Icelandic horse.
