Geysir frá Kvistum

As would be expected from a first prize conformation score, Geysir will undoubtedly catch your eye as soon as you walk into the barn. Although, it might take a second to see his eyes due to the massive amount of mane falling around his face as he greets you. It’s no wonder this guy earned a 9.5 for mane and tail in his breeding assessment.

His good looks are met with functionality, as he received a 9 for legs, and an 8.5 for joints, hooves, back and croup. It’s particularly impressive that Geysir earned first-prize as a 4-gaiter. Such an accomplishment is a true testament to the overall quality of this horse. He brings an incredible amount of loft to the canter and has an effortless way of reaching and floating in tölt. In his breeding assessment as a 6 year old, Geysir received an 8.5 in tölt, trot, spirit, and general impression. He was also awarded a 9 for walk and an 8 for gallop. Praises from the judges focused on his clear beat and willing, cooperative nature.

Whether observing Geysir proudly parading the field or witnessing his eager presentation under saddle, you’ll likely appreciate the spirit and lightheartedness this horse carries with him.

If you were following the World Championships in 2023, you likely got to witness Geysir and Laura Benson be a part of the United States team in Four Gait and Loose Rein Tölt. The pair represented the US beautifully, giving a truly harmonious presentation each time they entered the track.

Lala and Geysir’s pursuit to the World Championships also landed them at the top of the National Rider Ranking here in the US for T2. Their overall qualifying score was 7.32, with an impressive high qualifying score of 7.40!

Demonstrating an ability to rise to the occasion in various roles, Geysir has been shown in a variety of classes on the oval track since being in the US. This has included T2 (Loose Rein Tölt), V1 (Four Gait), and T3 (Open Tölt). Geysir has reached over 7 in Open Tölt classes and over 6 in Open Four Gait. He has also been successfully shown by his owner’s daughter to a 5.57 in T3 at a World Ranking event.

Further demonstrating his performance abilities, Geysir was recently a successful team member of the Knights of Iceland during their Fantasia performance at Equine Affaire in 2022. These events truly showcase the cabilities of the exceptional Icelandic Horse, like Geysir. In witnessing a performance, you can’t help but notice their willingness, bravery, cooperativeness, and incredible speed range in tölt. Under the guidance of his old partner Sigvaldi Guðmundsson, Geysir performed as a great representation of the true character of the Icelandic Horse.

Geysir’s first prize breeding assessment falls right on track with the lineage that sits behind him. His sire, Glymur frá Flekkudal achieved first prize as a four year old. In his highest evaluation Glymur received a 9 for tölt, pace and spirit and an 8.5 in trot and gallop. Including Geysir, Glymur has produced several first-prized offspring.

His grandsire, Keilir frá Miðsitju is also worth noting. This stallion earned first prize for his breeding evaluations and the title of honor prize for the performance of his offspring. Keilir himself earned 9 for pace and spirit, 9.5 for general impression and 8.5 for tölt and gallop.

Geysir’s dam, Gná frá Heiði is also a quality first-prize mare. What’s even more impressive is that at five years old, she also earned first prize as a four gaiter. Gná received a 9.5 for gallop, 9 for spirit, and 8.5 for tölt and trot.

This is a horse that looks as good on the track as he does on paper, providing an exciting opportunity to match with a quality stallion right here in the US.
