Ready to take your tölt to the next level? Join Mackenzie Durbin, our resident instructor and local trainer, in this two-day Let’s Talk Trot & Canter Clinic designed for riders who want a deeper understanding of how to ride, train and refine the trot & canter— Bring your own horse or use one of ours!
Over the course of the weekend, participants will take part in four focused riding lessons that address balance, rhythm and the rider’s influence. Emphasis is placed on exercises that improve quality of movement and transitions, helping both horse and rider build a more confident, harmonious partnership in trot & canter. Off the horse, Mackenzie will guide you through lectures on the basic mechanics of both gaits, common faults and an introduction to trot & canter scores in sport competition.
A highlight of the clinic is two in-depth riding demonstrations, comparing the process of improving trot & canter in both a five gaited Icelandic horse and a four gaited Icelandic horse. These demos clearly illustrate the differences in approach, timing, and expectations, giving riders valuable insight they can take into their riding.
Whether you are struggling to train trot & canter in your own horse or looking to better understand the mechanics for your own education, this clinic offers practical tools, expert guidance, and a clear roadmap to healthy movement in both gaits.
